Windsor Locks, CT—7/8/2013 -- Windsor Locks Fire Dept. received a $14,000.00 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE:UPS). The grant will be used to replace the Hurst tools on Engine 5 commonly known as the “jaws of life”.

In 2012, the UPS foundation awarded a grant of $8,200.00 to replace the pump portion of the Hurst tool. This years grant will replace the cutter and spreader portions of the tool which is obsolete.

Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, Ga., The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues. In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving: non-profit effectiveness, economic & global literacy, encouraging diversity, community safety and environmental sustainability.

In 2011, The UPS Foundation distributed nearly $45.3 million worldwide through grants that benefit organizations or programs such as the Windsor Locks Fire Dept. and provide support for building stronger communities.
