The Windsor Locks Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of active firefighter Donna M. Kupernik. Donna was the beloved wife of our late Fire Chief, Willam Kupernik and the mother of active firefighter's William and John Kupernik.  While this is a difficult time for all members of the department, our hearts go out to all of Donna's family and friends.


wlfd mourningdonnakDonna Mae (Scotto) Kupernik, 73, lifelong resident of Windsor Locks, beloved wife of the late Fire Chief William Kupernik passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Brigham and Women's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 1, 1942, in Hartford, CT and was the daughter of the late Aurelio and Katherine (Barbieri) Scotto.

Donna started her career at the Donut Kettle on Main Street, then went into banking as a bank teller at Windsor Locks Federal Credit Union and Hamilton Sunstrand Federal Credit Union. Shortly after, she started working at The Hartford in Simsbury and then was elected Tax Collector for the Town of Windsor Locks serving several terms before retiring. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church, a member of the Red Hat Society, an active member of the Windsor Locks CERT Team and a Past President of the Hartford County Fire Emergency Plan. Donna was one of the first female firefighters in the Town of Windsor Locks serving as an active member for 22 years, and a member of the Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Donna enjoyed traveling, and was an avid UCONN women's basketball fan. She is survived by her two sons William Kupernik, Sr. and his wife Karen of Windsor Locks and John Kupernik and his partner Gregory Dillworth of Windsor Locks; two grandsons, William Kupernik, Jr. and Cameron Kupernik; a brother David Scotto and his wife Rosemary of Glastonbury; several nieces and nephews, and many special friends. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a brother Albert Scotto. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, CT. A funeral procession will gather at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 for a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 42 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, CT. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial donations in Donna's memory may be made to the Windsor Locks Volunteer Fire Department, 2 Volunteer Drive, Windsor Locks, CT 06096 or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
